If you happened to be in central London last Tuesday, you may have seen a life size whale floating down the River Thames. Affectionately known as Olga, the arrival of the whale in London kicked off a campaign from WWF UK to highlight the plight of the last 130 western gray whales.

Threatened by plans for an additional oil and gas rig in their feeding area off the coast of Sakhalin Island near Russia, the western gray whale is a critically endangered species. WWF are calling for the public to show their support for the whales and put pressure on the European banks involved in the funding. Sign the petition at thelast130.org where we’ve now collected over 1,000 whale drawings inspired by the scribbles of Mr Scruff!

This Is Not A Pop UP 2

We’ve had a great start to 2012 and last week saw the launch of Southbank Centre’s second This Is Not A Pop Up concession.

This time TINAP, an initiative which lets new creative talent take over the Hayward Gallery shop, has seen NoBrow, the independent publishing and design organisation, transform the space into their own.

TINAP has had a fantastic response from the media with coverage appearing in The Metro, Daily Candy, Emerald Street and more. We went to the launch last week and could hardly move in the crowds all eager to see the latest work from NoBrow. TINAP is open until the 29^th Jan – why not head down and take a look for yourself:

Our work in Global Aloft sizzle

Last November, Kaper helped Starwood Hotels launch its Aloft brand in the UK. Aimed at the Gen Y traveller, Aloft is seeking to revolutionise the mid-market hotel category – the design features and cool factor of W but prices you can afford.

With more than 50 hotels worldwide, the brand debuted in London with the arrival of Aloft London Excel. To appeal to the target demographic, Kaper facilitated partnerships with up and coming collaborators including street art collective Monorex, music promoters Urban Nerds and Mixologist Alchemist Dreams. Free runners from 3RUN also took over the hotel giving a new spin on the traditional hotel video. Karma Comms Group Acquires Crayon Group

Following the investment into Karmarama, Kream and Kaper by Phoenix Equity Partners last summer, we’re delighted to announce our first major acquisition today in the form of data and digital experts Crayon.

Crayon will bring to the group a market leading understanding of data-driven digital and direct marketing. Their clients include the likes of Honda, Camelot, Sony and BT.

It’s a massive step forward in our goal to become an international challenger group of agencies that can help clients with creative solutions across the whole customer journey.

The Crayon Group is made up of operating entities: Crayon London – its integrated digital marketing services agency; data analytics-based customer insights consultancy, Crayon CI; technology and software services provider, Zigzag; and market research agency, Walk a Mile.

From a Kaper perspective, we expect Crayon to help provide even better insights and planning into our work as we look to evolve the PR model. Plus with their digital and CRM expertise, we believe our online comms will take a leap forward in its targeting and commercial edge.

Plus they’ve got offices in Oxford Circus which can tempt us away from W14. Nice. A big welcome to our new colleagues.

The Mambo London launch

Last week Mambo opened its first London store in 5 years in Covent Garden. Kaper were on hand to put together a launch event for customers with discounts, drinks and Sophie Lloyd on the decks. Move over Little Mix… Benton/ Fenton for Christmas Number 1!

If there is anyone who can take on Simon Cowell and win, it’s a dog, and that dog is called BENTON (or possibly Fenton) – with a little help from team Karmarama.

All in aid of fun, and a dog charity, Kaper has been spreading the word that the internet sensation Fenton the dog is taking on Little Mix for the top spot. The nation’s most famous naughty dog is releasing a charity single by The Hoxtons, featuring a remix of the now famous “Benton! Fenton! Jesus Christ!” clip in a bid to save the UK from another X-Factor Christmas number one.

And it’s gone down an absolute storm. @Fentonthedog has tweeted about it; The Guardian: G2, Metro.co.uk, DailyMail.co.uk, DailyTelegraph.co.uk, DailyMirror.co.uk and The Huffington Post have written about it; and none other than Fearne Cotton is endorsing it for the top spot, after she played it on her Radio 1 show. Not bad work for a dog…

Hitting the slopes…

Kaper has been all abuzz today in anticipation of the annual Christmas ski trip with our sister agencies Karmarama and Kream! This morning 80 of us trudged in with suitcases and skis in tow and now it’s all about to kick off in just under an hour! For 3 days we’ll be hitting the slopes in Tignes for some skiing, sledging…and hopefully a snowball fight or two. Watch this space for some pics on Monday!

Easing into Winter with Pot Noodle

Earlier this week we headed out of our offices with oodles of Pot Noodles, 1 masseuse, a bag of spinning forks and lots of other goodies. Our aim, to spread the Pot Noodle word and make the week, of a handful of lucky media, a little bit easier.

Media we visited during the drops included Zoo, Nuts, Loaded and the Daily Mirror. Clearly they enjoyed it as we’ve seen lots of activity on the Twittersphere.
